Combined these two make about 65 horsepower... tops. I reckon it’s time to try this “slow car fast” thing I keep hearing about.

Is that Geo as clean as it looks?
![]() 10/23/2016 at 15:33 |

It depends on the year and what engine. The later Chevy Metros had an optional 79HP SOHC 16V 4cyl engine.

LS9 swap.

IIRC the passenger rear quarter panel has a sizeable dent in it. So no.

No.
Although someone washed it for the first time in years.

OHHHH SHIT WATCH OUT!
![]() 10/23/2016 at 15:38 |

It’s the 3cyl 55 hp version. Base.

Nope. The left side rocker has a rust hole in it, the right side is a bit smashed, and the interior is missing some of the panels and the passenger side carpet. Not that I’m complaining, I paid $140 for a running driving car. Much to my surprise, it even has working AC!
The plan is to give it a Viking funeral by rallycrossing it to death. The question is what happens first: a major mechanical failure, or the front lower A-arm mounts breaking in half (they are also very rusty).

I my one SV makes about 75....
![]() 10/23/2016 at 15:41 |

It’s a 3-cylinder. The engine is adorable.
![]() 10/23/2016 at 15:44 |

I know myself well enough to know that I have no business on a 75 hp motorcycle.
![]() 10/23/2016 at 15:44 |

Not in the budget.

and its ‘slow’
The next bike I’m looking at has 160hp. before mods.

See, if you had sprung for a four cylinder Metro you could have had a whopping 75hp between the two.

LS1/2 swap?
![]() 10/23/2016 at 15:57 |

You buying?
![]() 10/23/2016 at 15:59 |

When this one is done, if I find a 4-banger Metro for $140, I’ll buy it.
![]() 10/23/2016 at 16:01 |

Can that be completed for $200? Because that’s my budget.

I’m starting a gofundme for shop-teacher’s LS 1/2 powered geo metro rally car. WHO’S WITH ME!

I replaced a head on a 3-cylinder Metro for a friend once. I felt like I was building a model kit. All the parts were so little and easy to work on.
![]() 10/23/2016 at 18:26 |

Dang! That would be stupid fun.
![]() 10/23/2016 at 18:31 |

Yep. Even the entire trans was small enough to simply bench pressed into place. It’s such a departure working on something so small and light. I’m used to working on vehicles that weigh over two tons, not less than one ton. Jacking my other vehicles up is work, but this thing is a breeze.
![]() 10/23/2016 at 18:47 |

Fun fact: the Metro was the last vehicle sold in the U.S. with throttle body injection.

A thang of beauty. O t0 60 in....???? Did you finish on Saturday?
![]() 10/23/2016 at 20:18 |

That is a fun fact! I was perusing the factory service manual earlier today, was surprised to read it had TBI.
![]() 10/23/2016 at 20:20 |

Yes, but not without a bit of drama. We were able to drive it under its own power in time to get XJDano to the airport. It wasn’t looking good at one point.

When I left,it was a missing nut. Thanks again for the beer and brats.

My first car was a ‘96 sedan.

Did they sell sedans with the 3-cylinder? Or were those 4-cylinders only? The service manual said (at least for ‘98) that the 4-cylinder had MPFI.
![]() 10/23/2016 at 22:58 |

I think mine had MPFI, but the sedans were 4cyl only.

We found a nut on the old transmission that would work. We got it all buttoned up, and it wouldn’t shift into neutral or 2nd, 4th, and reverse. Had to jack it back up, drain the gear oil back out of it, pull the linkage partially back apart, and flip a piece of it over.
![]() 10/24/2016 at 07:24 |
|
All that work to reverse a piece. Yowwzaa.
![]() 10/24/2016 at 08:59 |

Well, it was inside the transmission, so ....
